This drink is based on an agua fresca recipe in an article from the New York Times. I’d link, but I have changed it quite a bit. I’m sure Google will help you out if you really need to find the original.
Strawberry watermelon agua fresca
Ingredients
4-5 strawberries, hulled
4 cups diced watermelon
1 1/2 cups water
2 tablespoons sugar
Juice of one lime
Whiz all ingredients in a blender and strain into a jug or bowl. Refrigerate.
Mmmmm! Delicious! Pretty! Refreshing! What could be better? Oh, yeah! Alcohol!
Strawberry Watermelon Agua Fresca Cocktail
1 shot vodka
2/3 cup Strawberry Watermelon Agua Fresca
Ice
slice of lime
Assemble the above ingredients in a pretty glass in the usual fashion (see picture). Serve on veranda, to ladies in pretty floral dresses. Offer some to the gentlemen, even though they already have their bourbon and cigars. Silly men! They don’t know what they are missing!

Also, don’t be tempted to substitute tequila. I love tequila, but it does. not. work.

That looks (and reads) so good! I can’t wait to try it. (I love tequila, too – so thanks for the head up on the tequila FAIL).

I made something like this for my friend’s wedding but it had honey rather than sugar. I made it again for my 40th birthday but didn’t strain the pulp and didn’t add any extra sweetner and did add some muddled mint. Both times it was a hit.

I will totally bring this to the next barbecue I am invited to, so as to be sure to be invited to more barbecues in future.
